Description
Arcadius was a weak ruler at a time of great danger to the Roman empire, his reign was dominated by a series of powerful ministers and by his wife, Aelia Eudoxia. Eldest son of Theodosius I, his younger brother Honorius was the Western Roman Emperor, under whose equally weak leadership Rome itself was sacked by the Visigoths.
