Description
The third king of the Antigonid dynasty to rule over the Kingdom of Macedon, he was the son of Demetrius Poliocretes. In 277 BCE he won a resounding victory over the Celtic hordes that had invaded Greece two years prior. The victory brought him great fame and secured his hold on the throne. He managed to keep the kingdom intact despite the great power politics at play around him, successfully playing one side against the other. It has been suggested his nickname of Gonatas means ”Knock-Kneed“ perhaps a physical trait.
