Description
Selge was a populous and wealthy city, at one time the most important in Pisidia. As Alexander the Great passed through the region during his conquest of Asia, he chose not to attack the city, accepting the friendly embassy sent to him. The city did however fall victim to the Seleucid general Acheaus, who styled himself as king in the region. In 218 BCE, after a long siege by, the Selgians sued for peace and were forced to pay heavy tribute to the usurper.
