Description

Details

Achaea is the one of the small Frankish principalities that spouted up in Central Asia and the Middle East after the fall of Constantinople in 1204, a consequence of the Fourth Crusade. Philip acquired the title through his marriage to Isabella of Villehardouin, the granddaughter of Michael II Komnenos Doukas, proud descendent of the line of Byzantine emperors who reigned during the First Crusade. This silver denier-tournois features across on the obverse.
